More than ever, we live in an era of appearances and power dressing. It's all about looking the part and projecting the right image.
Look good, feel good ...............be excellent!
It's been said "The suit may make the man but the shirt is the power that lies beneath".
An immaculate dress shirt is 'The Suits' ultimate companion and business shirts of today are being designed and manufactured not only according to comfort but also to capture the image and personality of the man behind the shirt.
The shirt portrays a powerful message. It is the central piece of clothing that completes the corporate wardrobe!
The fit of a man's business shirt is also key to a man's attractive and powerful image.
When it comes to buying a good quality men's business shirt, most men are in the dark!
Here are some quick pointers to help you pick a good quality men's business shirt that you will feel proud to wear.
The Cut
There are numerous types of dress shirt cuts - most typically European, Slim Fit, Normal or Regular Fit and Loose Fit.
Today's fashion sense favours the Slim Fit, regardless of your build. A slim fitting shirt for workday style is enduringly neat, chick and sleek. A billowing shirt will not camouflage a generous waist, only magnify it.
The Fit
The fit is ALL IMPORTANT. It defines the overall look and how the shirt feels against your body when you wear it.
Neck Size:
The fit starts at the top of the shirt with the correct neck size. Determining your neck size is easy. Wrap the measuring tape around your neck, placing the tip of the tape to your Adam's apple to guide and work your way around leaving no gaps or space between your neck and the tape. This is the actual size of your neck. As a rule of thumb, you should be able to fit two fingers between the shirt collar and your neck.
Sleeve Length:
The sleeves should come down to about 2.5 centimetres above your wrist bone. Remember to maintain a 1.25 centimetre protrusion beneath the sleeve of the suit jacket. Measure from the centre back of your neck across your shoulder and then down to the wrist bone or where you would like your cuff to sit. Tip: It may help if you pleace your hand on your hip to allow for ease.
Collars, Cuffs & Placket:
The cuffs, collars and placket take a lot of the shirt's buttoning load and movement stress. Thicker cuffs, collars and plackets provide for a longer-lasting wear and extra durability.
Stitching:
Double stitching down both sides of the business shirt is always a sign of quality and durability.
Clearly, the men's shirt has revolutionised its way through time.
Classically, every man should own a white and pale blue shirt as a permanent fixture in their wardrobe. They are universally dashing and always appropriate.
